Visiting Scholars

Scholars from Taiwan and abroad are welcome to apply for short- or long-term research visits.

Overview

The Hu Fu Center for East Asia Democratic Studies welcomes scholars and doctoral candidates from Taiwan and abroad working on East Asian democratization, political culture, public-opinion surveys and survey experiments to apply for short- or long-term research visits. During the visit, scholars take part in the Center's academic activities and exchange with the research teams of the Asian Barometer Survey (ABS) and the National Taiwan University Websurvey (NTUWS).

As a rule the Center hosts three visiting scholars per semester.

Eligibility & How to Apply

Full-time faculty, researchers and doctoral candidates at universities or research institutions in Taiwan or abroad who hold their own funding or a fellowship. The Center acts as host only and provides no additional funding or salary.

Prospective visitors should first contact one of the Center's research fellows. Where the research topic fits the Center's research directions, that fellow may recommend and host the visit, and the Director will issue a letter of invitation to the relevant institution.

What We Offer

  • Research space and internet access (for visits of three months or longer, subject to the space available in the college at the time)
  • Opportunities to present research at public events and to take part in the Center's talks and workshops
